problems in nokia 3230

I have been using nokia 3230 for two years. Nokia has halted its production coz

  • It usually hangs during calls and takes a great time to reload in comparison to other nokia fones.
  • It doesn't accepts the theme files (.nth extension) presently used by other fones like 3600, N76 etc. and u have to use nokia pc suite for installing the theme while u can directly transfer via bluetooth and infra-red and install automatically in the above mentioned fones. This requires a system.
  • Even the 1.3 mp camera it is equipped with captures images like a VGA.
  • The body of the fone gets infected wid rust very quicky. I used a condom cover and couple of weeks later, I find the cover has developed some green areas where the phone came in contact with the cover. I had to rub out the spots on the cover.

The search is on...

Well now i feel too much bored with all those kiddie nokia fones. So planning to buy a PDA fone instead. All the features dat i seek in a fone include

  • Touchscreen
  • > 2.0 mp cam wid flash
  • Wi-fi
  • QWERTY keypad

and othr kiddie stuff...

I searched the PDAs on naaptol.com whr i can get reasonable prices. Here is a list of options that I came across.

Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is the only handset in Nokia gallery wid touchscreen input. It was quite beyond my budget. So option dropped.

Found many HTC phones but they had only 2 mp cam widout flash.
I dont like Samsung and LG products as I had a bad experience wid them in the past.

I dont like the GUI and font pattern of Motorola. But I still had exposure to Moto Rokr e6. It is quite a nice PDA, but my friend already has it so I dont want it.

Blackberry is out of my budget.

Found but failed

Finally I found the PDA that fulfilled all my requirements met...Sony Ericsson p1i

It is one of the coolest PDAs and properly fitted in my budget. Moreover, Sony Ericsson is famous for its gud quality speakers. So that adds an extra point.

This specifications of the fone are as follows.

inbuilt 3.2 mp camera wid 3x digital zoom and flash
Wi-Fi 802.11b
TFT touchscreen, 256K colors
QWERTY keyboard

I scanned the markets for the fone. However, I got to know dat the company has discontinued its production and the set was unavailable in some places in Mumbai. In koparkhairane, I found the set to be arnd 16.2k while in a small shop at Lamington road (the place is popular for its electronix goods), I found it arnd 14k and I can even bargain more for instant downpayment. Maybe they want to sell off their residual pieces to customers at a profitable margin rather selling them back to the company at a comparable loss(taking into account the recent drop in rupee value as compared to dollar).

Whr is SE p1i?

Well, to the best of my knowledge, the production of the fone has been discontinued. This fone has a symbian UIQ 3.0 platform based GUI This GUI is outdated and now S60, a new GUI has been recently launched.

The fone p1i was launched before the launch of the new S60 platform. In order to combat it, SE launched Xperia which uses Windows OS. Now after failing to use UIQ, future fones of SE will bear
S60 symbian software.

The article is illustrated here.

So it looks like my search continues.
